Annnnndd it was underwhelming. I’m just not the type of guy that likes art.¯\_()_/¯ obligatory Mona Lisa picture I took included.
To me this is art.

If you don’t like art.....don’t go to a huge institution dedicated to it!

It should probably be worth noting I’m 15 on vacation with my family, don’t have a say in the matter.

I would also dislike art with stinky peasant tourists in front of me.

The Louvre is incredible. Seeing the Mona Lisa though is far from the best thing you can do there, especially in July with the floods of people.

You just have to find more interesting art. I also have absolutely no interest in art (hence why I chose engineering lol) but I still have been able to find art museums that are interesting to me. I have been to the Vatican City and while the artwork was impressive, it really didn’t interest me. However, I can really enjoy model train museums with all of the meticulously modeled landscapes and intricate transportation networks. That definitely could be considered art in the way it is set up.

Been there, done that...was like why is this museum in a hole?

That explains why you don’t like art. Too young.

Try the Orsay, you may be more into that, and maybe the Pompideu where a urinal is on display as art.
The one thing about La Louvre is that it is bloody huge. There may be other stuff that you find you’re into there, like pottery or sculptures versus Renaissance paintings.

Agreed.

Imagine going to Versailles and having a group of unruly middle schoolers with bad body odor trample through while you’re trying to look at the frescos!

Honestly, the woodwork in the shelf under the Mona Lisa interests me more than the painting.

I hope you washed your hands. Oh you meant the museum.
The Louvre Museum exhibited a Range Rover as an “exemplary work of industrial design” back in the 1970s.

Art is incredibly subjective. It’s each to their own. I hope your enjoying your holiday none the less.

![]() 07/14/2016 at 08:42 |

Yup, that too. I often find myself admiring obscure things at museums instead of the artwork itself.

I enjoyed the greek and egyptian stuff most in the louvre. I dont appreciate paintings as much as sculptures and such.

I’m sure Panther Brown Tdi Volvo Shooting Brake Manual Miata RWD Wagon Stole HondaBro’s Accord. will like it more when he gets older.
I wasn’t that into art until I was 16 or 17.

If you’re ever in London, visit Tate Modern. If you don’t like the art, you can still admire the building.

Is it... THAT small?
![]() 07/14/2016 at 08:46 |

Go back when you’re 40 and see how it is. My wife and I went back in 2000 or so. I’m an art guy, and I enjoyed the Alte Pinakothek in Munich much more. But then again, they have a great collection of Albrecht Dürer, and I’m a major Dürer fan. The crowds at the Louvre also sucked. And the Mona Lisa is so small ! So yeah, museums are great, and the art inside the Louvre is indescribably important to the history of humanity, but not everybody likes it. And I can relate to being dragged places.
What else is on your Paris itinerary? It’s a remarkable city. I’d go there tomorrow and stay a month if I could.

Bike tour sounds great. Have you hit any of the great churches like Notre Dame or Sainte-Chapelle? Have you had a croque monsieur yet? One of my favorite visits was the Arc de Triomphe, standing on top and watching that absolutely batsh*t insane traffic circle. We drove through that circle, and it was sheer lunacy and an absolute blast.

21, besides sculptures, I have absolutely zero interest in fine art.

Not yet on both counts planning to haven't actually ever heard of a croque monsier before.

True. but also this kid did say he liked cars as art, art is all things! never to old or young to have a defined liking or disliking of any type of art!

We were just there last month! There are no rules in that traffic circle. It’s like the Thunderdome of France.

It’s essentially a grilled ham and cheese sandwich. They also make one with a fried egg on top called a croque madame . Hit any café in Paris and they’ll make one for you. Yummy. Try the crepes, too. Any street vendor will do.

There is one unwritten rule: if you can get your nose in, you’ve got the spot. It really is sort of like semi-organized chaos. Well, driving anywhere in Paris is semi-organized chaos, thrilling and terrifying at the same time. We had a rental Focus with a five speed. Decent car, actually. We rented it in Paris and then drove north to Normandy and then east, ending up in Munich. Good times.

Well, that’s too bad. We ate a wide variety of food in France and Germany, and in all that time, we each one horrible meal. My wife’s was in Strasbourg. The waitress said that the dish was “cold beef,” when, in reality, it was shredded beef and diced vegetables held together in a matrix of molded gelatin. It was really quite disgusting. For me, it was at a café in Paris, where I got the skirt steak (popular, but tough as shoe leather) with fries (inexplicably bright yellow) and a roquefort sauce. The sauce was inedible. I managed to scrape it off the meat, then make a dam with my fries to keep it at bay.

You can go a few hours to the east and find a more topical museum:

It isn’t!
The two entrances, the incredibly crowded one under the pyramid and the uncrowded one that nobody knows about, are underground though.

Underwhelming? You could spend an entire week in there. My favorite part of the Louvre is the ancient art section. They have art and statues in there that are some 6k years old.
*Edit. Just saw you were fifteen. Remember this moment, then punch yourself as hard as you can in the dick when you’re thirty.

When I went to Paris, Ralph Lauren’s cars were on display in a Museum! Bugatti Atlantique, Count Trossi’s SSK, McLaren F1, etc. It was AMAZING. But I thought the Louvre was pretty captivating too (I am a museum/art nut though).

When I was in Paris back in 2011 there was an exhibition right by the Louvre called “Art de l’automobile” and it was showcasing Ralph Lauren’s collection of cars - a lot of classic cars, and I think the most modern one they had was a McLaren F1 LM or something like that. Truly amazing collection, I loved the variations of the Ferrari 250 that he had, like the GTO, LM, Testa Rossa.

Which is all kinds of fun, since the Range Rover body grew out of the temporary hide-the-frame testing body. It’s an iconic example of form following function.

Yeah, it’s small. I was there in May and the crowds were bad. I can’t imagine that place in July. SOOOO many tour groups.
